Err sorry it was a bit unclear I should've quoted. To be honest there's nothing really wrong with your asking except it seems to those who told you not to say it that you knew what it meant but merely wanted to use it. Which of course I'm sure is not the case. But with my above post I was more referring to:

I tend to agree with you there, however I may be insufficient in my understand and it may actually have a connotation other than the headware.

As I said above, that wasn't really referring to User_Name's thing. I more saw the replies of Netik and responded to that. I agree, in this context I do believe that it wasn't that bad. However cracker is different, not only did I know it was a racist term, but it was used in a completely different fashion. I can't think of any similar words to that which do the same thing but like I said, it would depend on the circumstances.
