Because they are too young to be on myspace so if they use their real birth date they wont be able to like post pictures or something like that.

If they said their age was like 40 people might think they actually are (that dont know them) but if it is at like 99 everyone knows that they just put the latest date they could.

you only need to be 14 o.0 plus 99 makes it far more obvious there lieing than if they just put 14 (only slightly ahead)
