I like the concept but the fact is, how many people will actually buy the product?

Try it and see. Orrrrrrrrrr, put a poll in announcements saying "What special VIP would you like to see?" And have different options.

About the bracket thing - It would still be slightly confusing to those newer members? Also, I doubt that anyone would buy the red with brackets VIP as it would look ugly...
