Are two differnt situations

Is the same situation, in your first example, the man would have obviously come across more violent and correctly so, because a punch is a more violent action than a slap. In the second example the difference in violence is far less exsaudared.

Again is the same situation, just with gender rolls reversed.

Technicly speaking, its wrong for ANYONE to hit ANYONE, under the law. Although in some situations (aka self defense) that action can then be considered right. Hence it all depends on the situation. Your obviosly going to react differntly if your hit by someone signifcantly weaker than you, than if you were hit by someone substantly stronger than you. The gender of whom ever that is, isnt really much of an issue in that case.
