Right im going to explain it. This puzzle is taking from the film Die Hard 3 Aka, Die Hard: with avengence.

Ok so you do it in these steps;

1. Take the 5 liter container and fill it up.
2. Empty the contents of the 5 liter container into the 3 liter container until it is full, leaving you with exactly 2 liters in the 5 liter container.
3. Empty the 3 liter container and transfer the 2 liters in the 5 liter container into the 3 liter container.
4. Fill up the 5 liter container and fill up the 3 liter container with the water from the 5 liter container until it is full
5. This leaves you with EXACTLY! 4 liters in the 5 liter container.

those two bits in bold, if you fill up the 5 litre container how will it have 4?

Because you pour 1 liter from the 5 liter container into the 3 liter container because the 3 liter container still has 2 liters of water in from when you poured the 2 liters from the 5 liter container into the 3 liter one. :eusa_wall

Fill up the 5 litre jug, then fill up the 3 litre one with the 5 litre one, tip out the 3 litre one, put the 2 litres in the 5 litre into the 3 litre, fill up the 5 litre, fill the 3 litre up, taking away 1 litre from the 5 litre, leaving you with 4 litre in the 5 litre container.
