It depends what genre you listen to. There are plenty of bands that are huge and "wow" in their genre, just like those repetitive bands you keep mentioning were big in their genre of rock(now classic rock), so get over it. Get over the past!

    Repetitive bands? lol..

Can you name me some bands that've changed music recently? And aren't just clones of another band?

Radiohead is coming out with an album later this year, and they've toped numerous "Greatest album" lists from different sources. There are plenty of "wow" bands still around. What makes a band "wow" anyway?

Radiohead just to name a band that has influenced a lot of bands and isn't a "clone".

Deftones, they've inspired tons of new bands

Classic rock is classic rock for a reason, it's the past, yea some people enjoy it, I still occassionaly like to hear the odd Queen song but when that stuff came out it may of been great but now it's just classic, to a large amount of bands I've seen about music is more about who is the best at the intrument they play, Jimi Hendrix WAS good but now he's gone, he's not the best, it's just too many people think music JUST has to be based on what the song is about, meaning is a good thing about the song because then it's just not random stupidity but music is changing and meaning isn't a huge part of it anymore, some bands may still include meaning into the songs they write but half of the time they think of something, make it sound good and play it

They're a good band- but hmm.. I guess it's like a defining feature in the band? Hard to put into words, I suppose a great band- ie great musicians and a great sound:

    Led zeppelin for example:
    Robert plant- fantastic vocalist
Jimmy Page- one of the greatest guitarists (top 10 of 100 of all time i think.)
John Paul Jones: Very good bassist and also provided other instruments into the songs too
Bonzo: Incredibly drummer- #2 of all time - I'd say #1 but bah

There's a fair few of modern bands I like and would listen too but I don't really see any as "wow that's incredible" with the exception of foo fighters/aerosmith/white stripes/the stones (if i'm classing them as still alive- i'm sure they're doing voodoo to keep themselves alive )

Also neil you was telling me hendrix was a crap guitarist yesterday and that you could probably do better than him so hmm

Indeed, and here are more; Beck, The Postal Service, even Gym Class Heroes. Ive never heard anything quite like any of them. Those are just big names as well, there's an entire scene of these types of musicians.

So if we're gonna go onto great musician(s) making up a band to be incredible/influencing then lets do it that way.

Slipknot - Incredible drummer, fast and good technique.
Blink 182 - Also an incredible drummer, one of the best technique's around.
Green Day - All round good, may have "sold out" but early stuff was incredible.

I'll come up with more tomorrow, I'm off now.

I sort of agree with you there.. you're only giving like an "incredible drummer" though.. there's not a good combination kind of thing? I like greenday/bit of slipknot and blink 182, wouldn't rate them incredibly high though- I prefer corey's stone sour stuff compared to slipknots

Don't argue using drummers, Ezzie finds Joey's solos boring

Greendays older stuff was amazing, American Idiot was ok but got boring fast, Jesus of Suberbia was crap too but a lot of the older stuff was great
