Does anyone have any advice as to what to use, how to make gold and what to be? I have 2 characters atm, 1 is a Nelf Hunter and the other a human mage.

Just quest as you level up, you can get some rare drops which you can sell in the auction house for money. You learn as you level up really.
Level 70 Night Elf Rogue ~ Kilrogg
Level 70 Draenei Shaman ~ Kilrogg
Level 70 Blood Elf Mage ~ Dunemaul
Level 70 Night Elf Druid ~ Kilrogg
Level 50 Draenei Paladin ~ Kilrogg

what the two above said but if you are not in a rush to level pick up some gathering proffessions like mining and skinning (both better than herbs imo)

Yet again you are wrong. Ever heard of casual players? Not everyone gets addicted to games and can control on how long they play.
