Ok, I am going to release a shocker here:

I disagreee! OMGZ SHOOT HIM! ITS BCOS HEZ PART OF KORRUPT MANAGEMENTZ OMGZ!

Sorry I had to get that in there before someone else did Anyway, the reason I disagree is if its by popularity, the right choice will not always be made. Now in this case, Catzsy is a great person and people would vote for her, but there might not always be a great choice. If you all have student council elections in your school, you know the popular kids who are most probably airheads get elected (in most places anyway).

Also, members can't see mod logs, reversed infractions, behind the scenes work, teamwork, response to stress, etc. etc., so they wouldn't see the essence of that staff member.

To put it in retrospect, look at where democratic elections has gotten America and Britain, and look where running a business from the top down has gotten Microsoft Course Habbox isn't a business, but its somewhat closer to that management structure than to a democracy.

I'm not saying that Habbox is perfect, because its not, but yeah. Anyway, these are my opinions, doesn't mean you have to agree with them, nor does it mean they are law, but I can express mine just as you can express yours (within the rules of course )
It costs nothing to be a good friend.

Meh, i like Mad, he does the job and does it well. Id much rather have someone who can actualy get something done, than someone who is to scared to take any action in case someone disgrees with it or thinks its a bad idea.
No new forums would ever get added, none would ever be removed, no staff would be fired or hired, it would be totaly non-functional and pointless.

Theres always gona be some people who disagree with any desison, anything you do is gonna annoy someone somewhere. Its stupid trying to please everyone, so haveing a FM who can take the initaive and makes desions based on whats best for the forum, not whats best for there personal image or popularty, is a good choice.

Yes, expanding on what nvrspk said, members cannot see the hard work that people put in behind the scenes of Habbox, so the public choosing would turn it into a popularity contest rather than a decision based on who is best for the job and if they deserve it.

Some people don't quite understand that running a community as big as Habbox is not just about making friends and becoming popular. Its much more than that. If I wanted to be popular I would have to do nothing basically, because there will always be at least one person who dislikes a decision made. This is why popularity is not whats important. Anyone who has runa big site or forum like Habbox before will understand that. Anyone who doesn't, will find it a bit harder to understand unless they start running a site/forum themself .

I mean suuure its great to have a friend running the forum you use because you know they will do whatever you want (or at least you would imagine) or maybe they will give you job as admin just for saying hi to them every afternoon. That just wouldn't work.

You may think management is corrupt or whatever but trust me, Habbox is more liberal than many other sites I have seen as they allow you to post your opinion so much more (if its put in a sensible manner). I have seen sites where they just delete all the negative threads and ban the thread starter. Habbox doesnt do that and you can tell because this thread and many other threads like this have never been deleted nor hidden unless become totally unacceptable which in a few circumstances have done so.

I think voting will give too many problems. It works better if we just promote the super moderators that have been staff the longest and work the hardest to Admin when we need a new admin.

Well I don't know what sites your specifically referring to, but I can assure you if that was the case with Habbox I personally, and I am sure along with many others, wouldn't come on Habbox at all. Therefore, you guys would ultimately lose your customers of VIP etc. and Habbox would in the long run not be able to run at all.

I think management realises that, and therefore does allow people to post their opinions, as at the end of the day if you didn't - the users would leave to a forum that would and you guys would lose out on custom, and profit.
    Ostinato...
