Well on runehq it says they can be killed in "Safe Spots" is this like the lesser demon in draynor when it's behind them bars?

no it means that you can stand somewhere that the hellhounds cant get to you and you can mage/range/hally them, i cba getting a screeny coz im power ranging greaters but if i remember right when you first get into hellhound area you stand in the middle of some rocks

Basically you stand behind a few rocks and you can range/mage them.

If you are using range the safe spot is good, if your using halberd it can get annoying getting the hound into position

Yerr range/mage is guud for these as the safe spot is, well safe !

There's a screeny from a safe spot guide on TiF, it shows one of the 3 main places used. Another spot is using the ore that's kinda in the middle, and the other one is a smaller stalagmite....they're all pretty obvious. Depending on your lvl, bring a few lobs for before they become un-aggressive, and you'll be fine. They're my favorite spot for getting clues.
