Life on Mars - What exacly happened?

Well I only watched the first series when they were on TV, but bought the box sets the other day to watch series 2.

I watched all of series 2 and got a bit confused on the last episode.

Was he still in the coma dreaming that he got out of the coma and then went back into the coma or sumin? or what..

no, he really lived in the 70s right and his parents died and he'd being led a fake trail all his life by these people

and heaven for him was living in the present
which is why when he went back to the present he was deadd, and he chose to come back alive and live in the 70s.

if i remember correctly he was just in a coma and it was all in his head? then when he woke up he didn't like it in the present so he jumped off the building? and them driving off in the 70s was meant to represent him dying. i remember reading it somewhere.
