I read somewhere that if you don't learn a language properly by 5 then you will never be able to learn it.
So early years are vital.

That's a load of balls. I started education at 2 (at a nursery school) and I'm a keen reader and a good writer, so obviously not an ounce of truth in this idea. Starting later just means that parents have to try teaching their children for longer, which they usually aren't qualified to do, and so kids will just be underachievers for longer.

The earlier you start to learn something, the better you can learn it. Proven.

If there is any justification as to 'putting them off'. I know some people just have these crazy ideas. It's like political correctness if you've heard of it over there.

What you read is not true, not true at all. Anyone can learn a language whether they are 7 or 20. How do you think translators get their skills? They learn it. Just because they might not learn something at an early age, doesn't mean they can't learn it at all.

You start school at the age of 4 here. But it's fun. Like I remember kindergarten as fun, exciting. You have pure toys, games, etc. & everything is fun but you learn something.

It's wrong. Istarted learning Spanish when i was 13 and was flunet in 2 years.
The youbger you are the easier and quicker it is to learn but doesn't matter if your 5 or 70 you can always learn a new language.

I know! And it isn't like Nursery it is like Reception, so it toys but learning still...

in singapore, you start school at 4.

nursery and kindergarten - 3 years
primary school - 6 years
secondary school - 4/5 years
polytechnic/junior college - 2/3 years
university - no idea how many years

i think 7 is a little too late. a child must have an interest and love for learning at an early age. starting at 7 also means that you will be behind your peers who have started learning at an earlier age.

No, cos if they wait until 7, they pick up too many bad habits. That's just my opinion.

I started proper schooling at 5. Went to pre-school and all that at 3-4. I started reading young, that's why I'm a good reader and a very fast one too. My brother hasn't started reading yet and he's 13, he'll have problems BECAUSE he started late. Why start them off later when they can be learning new things instead of things they could of learnt years ago.

I got into reading by reading Harry Potter 2 when I was like 8 heh, after that I never really stopped. Half my vocabulary would of come from reading. (Bryce Courtney is the one to thank there)
