When the bombs were dropped, and the end of world war 2. everything was practically gone, so they could restart and didnt have to upgrade.

Its like having a old pc and putting some new parts into it, its still got old bits but some of it is new. They basically got to replace everything which would mean you have a much better pc because everything is new and better.

I think event horizons prevent that which is why we haven't looked to see the beginning of the universe already.
