It might be a guess, but when you said you always get -rep in bold, he thought he hadn't given you -rep in bold. It's a good thing he has admitted he has -repped you I guess, but other than that's it's not as if it's a problem

You can't disable individual tags (ie. [b], [img] etc) in the reputation system, if not the entire BBcode system AFAIK.
