i connected my ethernet to my laptop and to the xbox

and the IP adress fails, does this have anything to do with the laptop or not?

did you bridge the connections in networking thingymajigy?

I did it with XP

start > connect to > open network & sharing center > manage network connections

then, highlight both your internet and the ethernet to your xbox, then right click and select bridge connections :]

everything will DC before it works
