    3) I am told to intercept the ILS and turn to heading 125, at this point I input 125 into my course box and push the APR button.
    Or not :S

You would put 125 in your HEADING box on your MCP (Autopilot) then press LOC (Localiser)... You need to establish on the LOCALISER before decending with the GLIDESLOPE.

Faliure to fully capture the LOC first could start decending you into mountains.. Not a good way to land your plane, honestly

Default Step-by-step ILS tutorial. (with images)

ILS stands for Istrument landing system and is used in IFR conditions, in an ILS landing there are two parts to it, the localizer and the glideslope.

We'll talk about the localizer first, the localizer is used to guide you onto the glideslope because the glideslope has no frequency of its own for you to use. ATC will give you a heading along with a set of clearances, you follow this heading as normal but also put it into course box on the autopilot, after this input has been given you then press the APP or APR button dependent on the aircraft, the aircraft will then guide itself onto the glideslope.

The glideslope is the part of the landing which guides you down to the runway, after you have intercepted the localizer this is what you will be descending with. Doing this part correctly will give you a better chance of landing perfectly and safely. As you descend with the glideslope you have several points in which you have to make a decision. Point 1 is the place where you contact tower just as you intercept the glideslope, point 2 (fig.4) is just after that where you apply flaps, lower gear and decrease speed. Point 3 is at 200 feet above ground level where you decide whether to finish the landing or announce a go-around. If you finish the landing you need to turn all the autopilot off and land as you would normally.

Now we have discussed both parts of the ILS lets put it into a step-by-step procedure. I will use East midlands airport runway 9 and a learjet 45 doing circuits.

1)Tune East midlands ILS frequency (109.35) in NAV1 and prepare your flight. (Fig.1)
    2) Take-off procedures as normal and follow atc instructions.
    3) I am told to intercept the localiser and turn to heading 125, at this point I input 125 into my course box and push the APR button.(Fig.2)
    4) The plane will then turn itself onto the glideslope.
    5) I will then contact tower and lower flaps, lower gear and reduce my speed.(Fig.3)
    6) I then descend with the ILS.
    7) At 500 feet I decide to continue landing and disengage ALL autopilot settings.
    8) I commence flare for landing.
    9) I come to a full stop on the runway.

I have completed a full ILS approach and can now taxi and shut down.

For any further information contact me by PM I will get back to you asap. This is my first guide so all comments are welcome.

Thanks to Adam! and MattGarner for helping me iron out things.
