I doubt it. Server boards have high quality memory controllers which can handle all of that bandwidth.

Well yeah then it would.. but I have yet to find a desktop motherboard that supports 32GB RAM

Precisely. And a server OS handles RAM differently to a normal OS anyway.

DDR3 is faster but a lot more expensive than DDR2 right now.
