Unless you think that an 8-core can hold 16 sticks? That would be really embarassing.
Edit: If your multitasking especially rendering videos/graphics, 16GB is baseline for extreme tasks.
DDR-DDR3 makes a big difference; DDR2-3 does not.
I suggest x8 2GB sticks depending on your uses.
Look, The only time I maxed out my computer was when I was encoding videos, and then it was only maxing out my CPU and not the RAM, 4GB will do you just fine.
The way you said that makes me think you're using a server which has a monitor attached to itSo I guess you may need that much RAM, but still sounds odd...
Also, Aces said something in the last page about a really good/extreme gaming PC that can multitask, so I'm guessing he doesn't need that much RAM, about 4 GB really?
