You must finish a work unit before your score is recorded.

Ah Ok, I have 140/1000 on the WU atm, if I turn off my pc will it save the 140 I've done and keep adding to it next times its on?

Yeah, it will continue from where it left off. Your score won't be updated until you've done all 1000 frames.
