Default BBC announces 'human Tetris' gameshow

BBC1 is to air a new family Saturday night entertainment show dubbed "human Tetris" after the famous computer game.

Hole in the Wall will see celebrity contestants clad in shiny leotards try to force themselves through various holes in a giant moving wall or end up head first in a swimming pool.

Each week team captains Anton Du Beke from Strictly Come Dancing and cricketer Darren Gough will guide their teams of well-known faces through holes of differing shapes and sizes.

During each of the ten half-hour episodes, the wall shapes will get harder and come faster, as the stakes increase.

The winning team will walk away with £10,000 prize money for the charity of their choice.

Hole in the Wall, which is being made by independent producer Talkback Thames, will be hosted by Dale Winton.

Winton said: "A swimming pool, a hole in the wall, celebrities in Lycra, what could be more me than this!

"I have been watching the foreign versions of this show on YouTube for the last year, it's brilliant. I am thrilled to be hosting the British version on BBC1 later this year. I am already addicted to it, I hope that the audience will be too."

The show's co-executive producer, BBC1 commissioning executive Mark Linsey, said: "This format is enjoyed by viewers all over Europe and we believe will be a great addition to the wide range of entertainment programmes already on BBC1."

Fellow co-producer and Talkback Thames deputy head of entertainment Claire Horton, added: "This is a feel good addictive show which is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face."

Hole in the Wall has been developed from a Japanese format bought by Talkback's parent company, RTL-owned FremantleMedia.

The format, called Tunnels, originated from Fuji Television in Japan and has become a worldwide hit, with more than 10 million hits on YouTube. It has also been picked up by Fox in the US.

Hole in the Wall was commissioned by Elaine Bedell, controller of BBC entertainment commissioning, and will air later this year.

After a decade of quiz-based and variety entertainment shows ruling the roost on television, action entertainment shows appear to be making a return. Sky One recently rejuvenated nineties hit show Gladiators.

LMAO! That actually looks pretty good. The japanese version makes it look like a Takeshi's Castle game

Some of those shapes are pretty impossible to me though...
