    Default Hard Drive Upgrade

It's been along time coming but I've finally managed to fill up my Hard Drive.

I've got some money at the moment so I plan to upgrade to a 160 or 250 GB Drive.

I need a Laptop drive, as.. well.. I'm on a laptop.

    Can anyone recommend a drive?
The speed isn't too much of a problem for me, I don't mind mediocre.
I need it relatively cheap like... no more than 100 pounds.

Also, could anyone recommend any decent, free backup software. Just for my files not my actual system.

    +REP for everyone who helps.

Right well your budget can be halved that's the good news, but it depends on whether your laptop has an IDE or SATA Hard-drive, I don't know much about laptop components so I can't assume, if you know the name of your laptop it should be reasonably easy to find out.

    Anyway here's two cheap one's:
    SATA - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131277
    IDE - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132386]

And for backup software, where are you backing up to?

I really couldn't tell you if it was SATA or IDE.
It doesn't involve any cables though, the drive just slots into place, don't know if that's any help.

And I'd be backing to my redundant iPod I think.
I have blank DVDs that I can use also.

What's the make and model of your Laptop?

Also what is your OS, that should help with the backing up. If your using Vista you can backup to DVDs with out using any software, and to back-up to your iPod, 'Enable disk use' in iTunes on your iPod, then it will appear as a Drive in My Computer, then drag and drop files into it and then remove.

Is the slot it plugs into really long or short?

    It's a Dell Precision M90.
    Running Vista Ultimate.
If that's the case I'll get to it, thanks!

From what I can gather it's SATA but wait for someone else to confirm that.

This should help in replacing it: http://www.ebonne.com/dell_sm/m90.pdf
