    Default ASUS Eee?

    Hey,

I'm looking at buying an ASUS Eee... I just want something not too expensive, that runs Windows and is easy to carry onto planes, abroad etc...

What is the range of Windows Eees?

    Pros?
    Cons?

    Anything I should know?

    Thanks

The keyboards are annoying to type on. The processors only run at 800mhz, when with an atom netbook, you get 1.6ghz. Apart from that they are pretty nifty. Although I find them rather ugly, go and see one in a shop and try typing to get an idea of what I mean, but I suppose it's down to personal preference.

I saw them in PC World and they didn't look too bad, but I was only walking past, didn't get a proper look.

Really I will just use it to watch videos, word process, MSN etc.. nothing too much for it

The Acer Aspire Ones are better value for money and look less like a toy.

Tesco do the highest spec'd model for £248. That includes a 1.6GHz Atom, 1gb RAM and 120GB HD. The lower spec has a 8GB SSD and 512mb RAM for just under £200. They come in various colours as well, if you are bothered about that.

Aha I can't help but love the Acer Aspires, in recent weeks they've become huge!

Bare in mind though you'd still need Windows XP on top of it, I don't think they sell OEM copies any more but I do know packard bell do a reasonable netbook with XP for about 280 quid, I'm on my phone atm but you should be able to find it on the PC World site. Of course you could just torrent the OS.

If you want to watch lots of films, bare in mind its reasonably low battery life and the SSD models don't have much space for the movies (Dunno if it has a DVD drive tbh). Also on the majority of planes you can't use any electrical devices anyway...

Erm.... the six cell battery and minimal power mode with the 901 give me over five hours of life. If I was watching a video and disable bluetooth and wireless I can get over 6 hours battery life. Therefore the 901 > Aspire!

You've not mentioned that built into the 901 is an overclocking feature. Upto 1.8Ghz.
I'm not crazy, ask my toaster.

Just don't go to the USA. They will probably take it off you and search the whole machine with out any reason what so ever. Even if you don't look suspicious. I can't keep up with you tom One thing you say you want this but then its this then its that Good luck either way, i seen some ASUS they look pretty smart.
