    Default Monitor problems..

Right, my uncle gave me a Dell Precision 670 today, and I've set it up and everything, and it switches on fine, but nothing shows up on the monitor when its switched on...

It has some weird inputs on the back, no normal VGA input, but 2 longer ones, and he also gave me a couple of adaptors. Here's a diagram of whats going on.. lol (excuse my rushed paint skills)

Any solutions? I have no manual for the computer and the instructions on dells website dont cover such things

I'm not sure what graphics card is installed, but its an nvidia one for sure.

    Any help much appreciated!

Start > run > dxdiag find the gfx card.

    Is it a DVI-VGA adaptor?

I dunno if the problem is the way its plugged in or what, I've tried 2 different monitors, and 2 different adaptors, so I doubt its either of those 2 things.

Take the plug out the back of the computer and plug monitor directly into the computer the thing in the middle is a VGA to DVI converter as the computer uses a DVI connection but your monitor is VGA so thats used, the other cable looks liek a splitter.

The adaptor wont go directly into the computer The shape of the plug is extremely similar but the pins in the middle are different, so it wont fit

The end of the splitter that goes into the pc is different to what is on the other end

You tried the other end of the splitter and the other port on the graphics card?
