Default Is there "REALLY" a contingency plan for an aircraft crash into the sea?

Like when the Aircraft is far away from shore?

In my opinion Basically, the contingency plan is just there to be there. It won't actually do much. History proves this countless times.

I was going to post in the debate section but i don't really think this is a debate? It's more of a question :S

The reason why i ask this is seeing if the worst would happen to me which i hate to think it would - what would the prosegers be?

Wait, and stay warm. There'd be a rescue within hours.

uhh in an ideal scenario the aircraft would use emergency transponder code, so air traffic control could track where the plane was before sending in rescue crews

If I'm ever on a plane and the pilot comes on the radio and announces that we're going to crash, I can tell you now that I wont be thinking about contingency plans......I'd be storming my way to the back of the cabin to raid the drinks cart so that I could get drunk and enjoy the way down.

If my plane is going to crash anywhere, never mind the sea, I don't rate my chances of survival too highly.

Just try to enjoy the view. It's far from ideal, but it's a pretty decent way to die.

Personally, I think the pilots would be more concerned about stopping the plane crashing rather than telling everyone it's going to crash
