Default External hard drive that uses USB for power?

    Hello,

I'm looking for an external hard drive that does not need to be plugged in to an AC socket so only needs to be plugged in to the computer/laptop USB to act as an external hard drive. I need it to be around 500GB in size.

If anyone knows of any or can recommend any that'd be great.

Thanks very much. I will +rep.
    Kind Regards,

    Guy

I've had a western digital mybook for a few months, it's been great.

Thank you, +rep to both of you.

Any other suggestions before I buy the western digital? That's the only make out of those that I've heard of and I also know them to be good, + the positive feedback in this thread.
    Kind Regards,

    Guy

Well, i personally don't like Western Digital and would recommend one of the others linked over a WD drive. Not sure on what brand of drives the Buffalo use in their drives though.

Desktop External Hard drives - require power through AC

Portable - Don't require AC from what i've seen

    yh i suggest Western Digital
I've got a 160GB Portable one and a 500GB Desktop one never let me down.

2.5" external hard drives typically are the ones which don't require external power.
3.5" external hard drives do require external power.
