Hes nice, but being in a night club... If he was drunk or a bit over the top, you do things you wouldn't usually, plus his drink could of been spiked. Always a chance.

Stop acting like Mr detective Sam, its sad lol. Fact is he'll come to a cash settlement with the guy, if he did punch him. I doubt he'd just flip out on someone, he was probably either provoked or mistaken identity.

    He's a good scouser lol.

It's much more likely that what happened was this drunk guy was hassling Gerrard, who pushed him out the way, the drunkard falls over and the media blow it all out of proportion.

    Gerrard charged in assault probe

Gerrard was arrested in a street close to the Lounge Inn

England and Liverpool footballer Steven Gerrard has been charged with assault and affray following a disturbance outside a Merseyside nightclub.

The 28-year-old was arrested along with five other men near the Lounge Inn in Southport in the early hours of Monday.

A 34-year-old man was taken to hospital with facial injuries, not thought to be life-threatening.

John Doran, 29, and Ian Smith, 19, both from Huyton, Liverpool, have also been charged and bailed over the incident.

All three will appear at North Sefton Magistrates' Court on 23 January, accused of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

    Two goals

Three other men have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

In a statement, a Merseyside Police spokesman said: "Merseyside Police has charged Steven Gerrard, 28 years, of Formby, Sefton, John Doran, 29, and Ian Smith, 19 years, both from Huyton, Liverpool, with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray following an incident at Bold Street in Southport in the early hours of Monday, December 29.

"The three men will be appearing at North Sefton Magistrates' Court on January 23."

After the game on Sunday the Liverpool FC captain, who scored twice, hailed his side as the best he has played in.
Gerrard has been capped by England 70 times and has captained his country four times. He was made an MBE last year and received an honorary fellowship from Liverpool John Moores University.
Hope he gets a stretch in prision, far as i am concerned if anyone assualts anyone they are just dirty scum. How can he be a role model to kids now.

I agree, but he could have been really drunk - When your drunk you've got no control of your actions.

The most he will get is a fine and probably pay compensation to the guy he assaulted.

I don't think he will end up doing a 6 months prison sentence as what Joey Barton did but wouldn't that be great if it did happen!

Being drunk doesn't dismiss you of any wrong-doings :S.
