You're thinking 'diploma', what American students get after their senior year in High School.

But anyway, whilst 23 A-Levels is an achievement... It's just a little, I don't know, boring. His social life can't have been very good - I don't know why he wouldn't just do a normal course (maybe do 5/6 instead of 3/4), then make a start on university.

Well yeah seeing as if you don't have qualifications you won't get a decent job. If you don't have a decent job you don't have a decent life. How old are you? 6?

I think too many qualifications could hold him back, though. I mean, as an employer, you look for well-rounded people, not just very academically accomplished ones.

I wouldn't say that at all. If I had the choice to do 23 A Levels and knew I could do it, I would do them. One year of your life doing this is going to save you a lot of hassle in the future, and can potentially set you up for life. 1 Year is worth sacrificing for the rest of your life
