xBox Live gonna be free?

My mate said they are going xBox Live is going to be free from next month, he doesn't know if its perm..

Is it true, if it is then i might buy a xbox, because i can't be bothered to waste 40 quid for one year..

No. Thats just a lie that has been spread around. People have even messaged people telling them to put "MAKE LIVE FREE" in their Bio and Microsoft will listen.

Its not going to happen. Microsoft make too much money from subscriptions to live.

Plus £40 a year for live is worth it.

Sony is hugely behind in the area of online play. There are more people playing xbox live than Wii WiFi play or Playstation online. Microsoft would'nt even so much as reduce the price for live.

But i doubt it will be free, considering how much it will cost to run etc
