I constantly say that to my friend and her mum died. Its not an offensive thing for her. Ive also said "Jo... I am your father" when their parents had split... just laughed about it. If your friends dont understand your humour its abit odd.

I have said "wow thats gay" to my (girl)friend's boyfriend who then later turned out to be gay. I felt a little bad. But it was ages ago now.
