Default Tutorial: How to change your IP

Im pretty sure this works for most routers.
Ok so this is how you change your ip..

    1. Press ctrl + r. Then type in 'cmd'. The command prompt will open, in this type 'ipconfig'. It should say something along the lines of 'Default gateway: 192.168.1.1' (yours may be different). That number is your default gateway, note it down somewhere.

    2. Open up your default gateway in your browser by going to http://(gatewaynumber)/ - mine would be http://192.168.1.1/

    3. You will see a login page, by default the credentials are:
    u: admin
    p: admin
If that doesn't work, contact your administrators/ISP. You might also want to look on your router for the user and password.

    4. Once you are logged in you will see lots of jibberish (unless your a nerd, in which case you will know what it means). Now this step will be very different for everyone because we dont all have the same routers. I have a ZyXEL NBG334W, yours is no doubt different. You need to look around for a page with the title 'WAN', or a link saying 'WAN' that will direct you to another page. Most routers have a basic navigation, under the network heading you should get different titles such as LAN, WAN, NAT, DNS etc - in that case click wan.

    5. You should see a page a bit like shown below (in the screenshot). You have to look for a heading named 'WAN MAC Address'. Under that heading look for something like 'SET WAN MAC Address'.

    6. When you have found that option there should be an input box with some random numbers and letters in it. This is your MAC Address. Mine is: 00:02:cf:85:f4:76
By default, the last two numbers are 11
    (mine was 00:02:cf:85:f4:11)
You have to change the 11 to any other two numbers except 11.

    7. When you have changed the last two numbers, press apply. Wait about 10 seconds until it says that the configuration has been saved. Hard part over

    8. Now the hard part is done, turn off your computer. Go to your modem and unplug it at the back (there should be a black wire, pull it out). LEAVE YOUR ROUTER PLUGGED IN.

    9. Wait 10 minutes. Make a cup of tea and watch a bit of telly.

    10. Plug your modem back in, wait for 2 minutes, turn your computer on and your ip should have changed.

    yeah.

You know you can restart your router and in less than 30 seconds you'll have a new ip.

Or you can simply open command promt and type in

    Code:
    ipconfig/release
and then after its finished that you type in
    Code:
    ipconfig/renew
    And viola!

wrong, that doesnt work for all routers.
Im pretty sure my method does though, and its not that complicated - the first 7 steps are just changing two numberd
once you have learned where they are it's easy

    1. its Start and R, not control.

    2. By default the login credentials are random 90% of the time, so like admin and IOWEHFI893Jhiowj.

    3. You shouldn't change the WAN MAC address.

    4. You can skip ALL OF IT OUT and just unplug and plug it back in after 10 minutes for a new IP, you don't need to do anything on the router.

    5. It will work only for people on dynamic IP addresses.

    6. Any self respecting person knows that rebooting your router will change your IP if its dynamic.

Sorry to tear it apart there but its true.

AND Stutoman, that command is obsolete nowadays.

Yea, the easiest way is to switch your router off, then switch it back on.

I assume this tutorial is for people who have Static IPs?
