I think its a step in the wrong direction. Ok yeah, smaller is better but I think they have went a bit far with all the shrinking.
They still sell the old ones though.

+ It's all about business, of course Apple knows if your headphones break you will need to buy a new pair from them. Business is all about making money $$$, does nobody know that?
    That went fast.

    1. The new shuffle is damn attractive.
    2. £19 is not an extortionate amount for new Apple headphones with remote. (Though £54 for their in-ear variety is.)
    3. The shuffle uses a 3.5mm jack, so I gather you don't need to use their headphones. I imagine you could use any that have controls on them. In fact, I'll test this out on Thursday afternoon or Friday when I'm next near the Apple store.
    4. Did I imagine how attractive the shuffle is?
    5. I really would buy one but my new phone has more than adequate music support, and my tablet didn't pay for itself.

Yeah, of course it is all about the money but what I meant was really you can't use your product until you get another pair of Apple headphones.

Any other player you would just bash another pair of headphones in and you could be listening to your music again no problem.

I think the previous generation looked better though, although I am loving that it is 4GB

As I have said, you might not need Apple headphones... just any headphones with controls on them. If Apple were going to make them proprietary, they could have used a custom-size jack. I will go testing tomorrow afternoon.

It'd work but you couldnt control it unless it had the 3rd Jack.. that is if Apple haven't changed the order round.

Every set of earbuds has 3 connectors... it's the extra 4th connector which is necessary and yes, I have it. Nokia headset with 3.5mm, 4 connectors, FF, RE, Stop, Play/Pause, and volume rocker. I'll drop a note in this thread when I've tried it out.

I actually like it, I think it looks very nice, simple. Most people dont understand that simplicity is what people love about Apple's music products.

Dont know about functionality though, going to the Apple store over the weekend so I will take a look, might pick one up.

It's quite an interesting idea though, it reminds me of the old iPod Mini, the only iPod I ever liked

There's a right way and a wrong way of doing that though, people are going to complain about it being unethical now :/
