I disagree with these points. If he has no friends and never has then he clearly needs to change. You can play the "best to be yourself" card but alter yourself to be someone decent and then be THAT self, because one would hope no-one's so useless that the best they can be is someone with no friends. Also if you get in with crowds of other loners you'll be stuck with them, and frankly there's a reason they have no friends either - they're likely boring. In my experience these types are actually quite volatile too, and not good friend material.
