Default [AMD] Breaks World Record!

AMD yesterday announced the Dragon platform quad-core processor 3.2GHz Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition. Aimed at gamers and computing enthusiasts, the 3.2GHz Phenom II X4 955 BE will compete with the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550. AMD boasts that their X4 955 BE is capable of running up to 7GHz under extreme cooling conditions.

Brent Barry, an AMD product manager, said that AMD was able to more than double the CPU's speed during tests. He further added that Liquid Helium was potent enough to cool the system below -240 degree Celsius than Liquid Nitrogen, which manages to cool down till -140 degree Celsius.

AMD spokesperson Matt Davis noted that huge amount of Liquid Helium would be required for extreme cooling while the system is overclocked up to more than twice the frequency offered. However, one can overclock the 3.2GHz Phenom II X4 955 BE to 3.8GHz safely at home with help of conventional fan-cooling method.

Some hobbyists of LimitTeam_Sigh managed to overclock the 3.2GHz AMD Phenom II X4 955 CPU to 6.7GHz using Liquid Nitrogen cooling and the details are listed at the Ripping.org, the overclocking world database.

Earlier this year, AMD hobbyists overclocked AMD Phenom II X4 940 to 6.5GHz which is also listed at Ripping.org website. Check out the video below.

I guess you would need a lot of water cooling to keep it cool under 7GHz load.
Never argue with an idiot, he'll drag you down to his level, and beat you with experience.

I think they used a mixture of Liquid helium and nitrogen

I wonder how much life span the cpu would have overclocked to that.

Lol, Yeah, I'll just top-up my liquid helium every 2 seconds.

I don't think technology can go up to 7GHz stable yet. All they are saying is that the cpu can go up to it.
