We have enough anti-virals, which just about destroy the virus, in the UK to help 35 million people. That's around half of the population of the UK. It's obvious we'll end up giving some up to other countries though.

I can see how it could turn into a Level 6 disease, but not coming at us. I think the UK is possibly the most well-prepared country in the world at the moment, and we're gonna ride this thing out.

The Americas may take most of the outbreak. Europe will go mostly unaffected and the Asians are so hot, they'll just snap their fingers and it'll disappear.

thats kinda a ridiculous thing to be so positive of, to be honest.

as other people said before, no one outside of mexico have died other than one boy who was from mexico. and we should know better than anyone that mexico isnt exactly the richest and most medically advanced country in the world.

and like i said before, a few dozen people is nothing compared to the tens of thousands of people who die from the ordinary flu every year.

i think its ridiculous that TENS OF THOUSANDS of people die from the regular flu every year in industrialized countries yet we cause great concern over what is only a potential threat. thats like driving with a flat tire but being worried about running out of gas. if swine flu started killing as many people as the normal flu does every year, people would be freaking the **** out.

btw their disease rating system is as arbitrary and useless as the terrorist threat rating system.
Amen to that take some rep :8

Even though they are saying it's bad and we're in a phase five I still don't feel under threat.
I’ll be a story in your head, but that’s okay, because we’re all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh? Because it was, you know. It was the best. A daft old man who stole a magic box and ran away. Did I ever tell you that I stole it? Well, I borrowed it. I always meant to take it back. Oh, that box, Amy, you’ll dream about that box. It’ll never leave you. Big and little at the same time. Brand-new and ancient and the bluest blue ever. And the times we had, eh? Would had…Never had. In your dreams, they’ll still be there. The Doctor and Amy Pond and the days that never came.

Really no need to panic, even though my University has now started a new campaign which is a bit useless when we break up for study leave on Monday

its not that it isnt cause for concern, but people going around saying its going to kill millions are just making matters worse. we need to act rationally.

Unlucky. Well here it's still on the news, but it wasn't the main headline on ITV or BBC and it isn't taking up half the news program any more. (watch my jinx it)

Well, actually, it's not much better - we get to hear about the credit crunch and more politics again :eusa_doh:

well a pandemic doesnt necessarily have to kill people, but its pretty obvious people are hyping it more than they should.
