I think that this is quite a good idea. Maybe there should be some forum specific rules w here people should be giving constructive criticism or why they think it's nice rather than just saying "Nice picture" to make them less pointless, as it is just the same thing over again. In the pets forum I guess you can't really provide opinions on how to improve the dog that much so I don't know how we could tidy things up in there

From a personal point of view I don't see the issue as pointless posting as all posts were relevant to the thread they were in. They were short, yes, but not spam.

This was discussed at great length I remember a few years ago and Sierk made this direction.

What most people are quoting in this thread as 'pointless' has been acceptable for years especially in the 'Welcome to New Members' forum.

The posts mentioned I, personally, don't think are completely random/spam and I remember most of the forum wanting the rule to be relaxed which is where the above direction made by Sierk came from.

The issue here is whether a member is posting just for the sake of getting their post counts up which is a different matter altogether and one that could be considered and argued although it matters not a jot to me as the quality of a post outweighs quantity all the time.

I do also feel this thread would have carried far more weight if there had been a variety of different posts from different members not just one person.

Im not being mean but he is always doing it, he thinks he needs to have a high post count for some reason and in one thread he said that something was very nice then when people posted after him saying it wasnt he posted again saying he changed his mind :S

maybe you could put that you need to actually contribute and say what you like about it or what you dont like instead of putting yes or no?

Was just an example of the 'extreme' ones, since this thread the person I wrote about has been contributing more, still for post count in my view but I guess it's better than before

Hmm, nah lol, say if someone asks "Do you.." then sometimes you can only reply Yes or No so not really, I was just thinking mainly of in 'Cool Rooms' 'Pictures/Photography' they want constructive comments not just "cool I like it" otherwise they don't know what to work on.

Sometimes I post like that if it's something which literally makes me go *wow*
But I have noticed him posting way too much exactly the same thing.

I do basically what you do, post in a thread if it has something to do with me/something I like etc. and if there is something I want to comment on etc.

It's the same in Graphics as well really. It's nice to be told your work is good. But it should really be constructive as well so they know how they can improve/what errors there are etc.

You don't get post count in that forum though.

But sometimes a graphic work does not need to be changed at all

edit: posts do count in the welcome section
