Default Would you donate your organs when you die?

I recently had a debate at school with my teacher about donating your organs when you are dead. According to her, I'm selfish for not wanting to donate my organs when I'm dead, and I don't because I think it's disrespectful and also unfair on families if a corpse is being diced up for organs.

I had a sister who died on the day she was born, and the first thing doctors asked my Mum after she passed away was if she wanted her organs to be donated, which I think is inconsiderate and inappropiate at such times. What is everyone's view on this.

It should be down to the deceased if they wanted their bodies diced up and whether or not the deceased had any special organs that could be useful in discovering certain things. Though the latter seems unlikely and confusing.

If someone doesn't want their organs removed, then so be it. If they've never said, they shouldn't. If they say they do, then they do get used and removed. It's not selfish at all, it's respect. Selfish is thinking your body is a temple and that having it ripped up would be horrific! If you don't like the idea, no-one is forcing you.

I cannot donate my organs anyway, they're toxic and would be rejected by another body (long story but involves an operation and drugs)

I think I will donate my organs. I mean, a lot of good can come from it, your healthy (hopefully) organs giving someone another 10 years of life, even though you're dead.

And they've unfortunatly got to ask that question fairly soon or, well, they lose the use of them.

I don't think mine will be healthy so for that reason no. I would probably give blood though

A close relative died when he was quite young and his organs were donated. It saved 3 other peoples lives including a woman with 4 children who couldn't even walk up the stairs before because whe was so weak.
It has to be a personal decision though. I have already signed up to donate mine.
