Eh? Ikkaku has been around for ages and his name has been mentioned many times. He even explained the meaning of his name in one episode, it took a whole minute of screen time. He is one of the main secondary characters!

Eh.. maybe I just have a good memory. But he has been in a lot of episodes including fighting Ichigo in the Soul Society Arc, following Zaraki around a bit, he played quite a role in the Bounto arc too. He's a pretty important character.
