As Hazel Blears resigns, Conservative leader David Cameron tells Gordon Brown his government is "collapsing before our eyes". Jacqui Smith has also resigned and rumours are spreading that Alistair Darling will also resign shortly.

The resignations come after the continuing expenses scandel spirals out of control and the expected meltdown Labour is expected to suffer in the European Parliament Elections at the hands of the Conservatives and UKIP.

Many believe if Labour come under UKIP in the polls which is looking increasingly likely according to pollsters, Gordon Brown will be ousted and many believe Labour will have no choice but to hold a General Election as one must be held by June 2010.

Alan Johnson is widely tipped to potentially succeed Gordon Brown as Labour leader and is also expected to be the man who launches a leadership bid against the Prime Minister which would ultimately bring Gordon Brown down.

David Cameron, William Hague and Vince Cable are amongst prominent MP's calling for a General Election as it does seem this government is reaching the end of the road. Personally I hope he hangs on as long as possible, as then when a General Election does come Labour do as bad as possible which is really the best outcome for the country.

As Hazel Blears resigns, Tory leader David Cameron tells the Prime Minister his government is "collapsing before our eyes".

Hazel Blears has been under pressure for some time over her expenses, Ms Blears is the second Cabinet minister to step down in as many days after Sky News revealed Jacqui Smith will also leave the Government at the next reshuffle.

During Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Brown said the "whole house" should acknowledge the "contributions" of the Home Secretary and Communities Secretary.

Mr Brown also used PMQs to express support for his Chancellor Alistair Darling who has been under pressure in recent days over his expenses claims.

"This Chancellor is leading the rest of the world in taking us out of recession."

He added: "He is doing a good job".

But Sky's political editor Adam Boulton said: "This is about the authority of the Prime Minister being chipped away as other ministers take their own decisions about their futures.

"If she [Hazel Blears] goes public and gives a little bit of detail about what is going on behind the door of Number 10, and inside government, it could be very debilitating indeed.

"The timing of this decision, coming right before the Prime Minister has to face the Commons and the day after several MPs handed in their resignation, can only be seen as a hostile act to destabilise Gordon Brown."

Tory leader David Cameron said the Prime Minister's ability to take charge of his government had "disappeared".

"What we are seeing is a dysfunctional Cabinet, and a dysfunctional government led by a Prime Minister who cannot take the lead," he told MPs.

then hopefully Gordon Brown will have to go and get somebody that has a personality and and a brain other than for economics. People will be resigning ready for the 'blood bath' that is inevitable after Thursday.
David Milliband FTW! On a happier note though the £ is doing much better against the euro and the $. Also the UK seems to managing the WORLD WIDE recession better than most. Gordon Brown is good in that department tbf.

I'd disagree strongly on his management of the economy, I think Gordon was one of the worst chancellors in history and was just riding the wave of Thatcherism that made the 1990s - 2000's so prosperous. It may be world wide but the fact is we were totally unprepared when one of the most basic points in capitalism is; after there is boom, there is always bust and i'm afraid this government didn't, and still refuses to manage any budget efficently. We are heading for the levels of debt seen in the 1970's and that is very dangerous.

As for David Milliband I think he to could be a potential leader, he did the other day, unlike other ministers, state very clearly he wanted to stay in the Foreign Office which is an unusally strong statement from a minister just before a reshuffle.

The pound is doing much better than the euro now and has put to bed the argument for the single currency once again, we'll weather the recession of course and it will soon be over, but the issue that worries me is the level of debt we, our generation, will be paying off.

It will be very interesting after Thursday night to see what events unfold afterwards.

Could happen if they force Brown to resign. It's very unlikely they'd have 3 PMs during one term so they'd probably call an GE or the Queen would request one.

Tomorrow is going to be very interesting in my area, as my county council is only 1 of 4 still under Labour control and it looks like it will be the only one come tommorrow. None the less, I will be going to my polling station tomorrow morning, and voting for Labour in both the EU and Local Election.
