Why should people play it? Habbo has a large user base of people to talk to, hundreds of items, good mini games, a fast server and its really well developed. Its like creating your own search engine to go against Google, it isnt going to work I'm afraid.
I know it's slightly different, but when Serj (I think his name is) and the other guy started Google people thought they were mad for going up against the big search engine of the time, and look where they are now. Same with people like Mark Zuckerburg (haha typo I think) when he started Facebook.
If you can offer a better service, for just as good or better value for money (or free!) then people will eventually notice. But it does need to have a majorly unique selling point in a market like this.

Richard, please do not compare Google to this Google had a unique view on search than the other sites that existed at the time. They completely changed the way web search was conducted.

Where as with this site, it sounds like there is nothing innovative or new.

If you don't have financial backing, you'll fail. In this economy, you won't get financial backing.

As long as they can provide a server capable of catering 1,000 players, then that is all you need to start up with.

Every company starts off small and grows with time. And why would a small game in BETA need financial backing from say.. a bank? As long as he and whoever else helps to run this project can inject funds from working, then all will be fine.

    To your replies,

One of our main ideas I posted about earlier in this thread, This should attract users as it gives users something to do on our client.

Skajo, we have money at hand when we need it so we are okay on that side of things. Also i would like to tell you that we recently have purchased a vps which will keep our server online.
