I have never watched it but mates of mine (who introduced me to Death Note - which is the only anime I've watched), watch Bleach and say that it is really good. The idea of a million episodes puts me off though cos just cba watching them all tbh.

But do you think it's worth giving it a go considering I've never watched any anime before (apart from DN)?

Try other series, such as full metal alchemist or code geass. They are about the same length as DN. Watch FMA in english dub, watch code geass in subs.

He's still not back. My bet is he'll show up at the very end in the way the guy everyone 'thought was dead' rolls into the hospital room at the end of a movie in a wheelchair because people don't die in bleach.
Quite funny, in the manga last week Tousen was getting ripped by Shuhei, making loads of cracks about him being blind.

Like Kenpachi in the Soul Society arc. I thought that ******* was dead when he collpased atop that building after asking his zanpaktou it's name when Ichigo destroyed him somehow, but in the next episode he shows up in hospital. Seriously, he was dead! Yachiru was like "Ken-chaaaan!" and everything. And Renji! Damn I don't even want to mention Renji. He got ripped to shreads by Byakuya. He was basically impaled on spears at the end. Whats his face doesn't die either, he turns into goo. Jeez, the amount of times I thought people were going to die in Bleach at the beginning seems never ending. Maybe thats why it was so good back then lol, because no one knew characters didn't actually die. The world will end if Grimmjow is actually dead.
