Well, it's already been deemed by nvr that frick is ok, it's safe to say that frack is probably also allowed. Lets hope that freck is allowed also.

Looks fine and can hardly be used in an argument or as an insult, or is being told to "Frick/frack off!" really that bad? Heck, "holy frig" is fine :/

I think we've started on a very slippery slope now. Avoiding the filter now has no real meaning if changing a letter and claiming it as a completely different word is allowed. For example I could go around telling people to "phuck off" or inform the forum I'm going for a "chit" (a word which I've actually heard used around where I live). Its a can of worms that can only be closed by disallowing "frick" imo, unless you want to move towards a far more leniant stance on inappropriate language, but thats a whole other conversation.

    Correct.

"Frack you, you fracker" would be rude, even though it sounds juvenile it would be an obvious avoidance.

I find myself agreeing with you. I guess we'll have to confront that issue sooner or later, I am thinking for the moment that we'll rather arbitrarily draw the line where we think it should be and if it doesn't work/is argued we'll offer them two options: accept the line drawn by management or eradicate the need for such a fine line by doing as you said and closing the can of worms

Isn't it only bad if the "avoidance" is literally avoiding the spelling? It's bad when it's something like phuck, because it sounds exactly the same as the word it is avoiding. But frig, frick and frack are popular yet amusing avoidances which look stupid and are meant for humourous reasons - would you really take anyone serious using that language? I wouldn't.

I disagree with Professor-Alex, that's just begging another uproar of the forum becoming bland, boring and over-ruled. By all means, ban the avoidance of words that are pronounced exactly the same e.g. phuck and to some extent shet, because it is obviously intended to cause an argument, but frig, frigate, frick, frack, sheet, are perfectly fine and can not be used in an argument, without the user of the words being laughed at. Heck, if they use that language, tell me and I'll humilate the little beggars (<- that would also be banned, as it clearly means something else :rolleyes

I do not see 'Frack off' as avoidance if the word is acceptable, as it has been confirmed' but it could break other rules such as rudeness to others/inappropriate if used aggressively and in an argumentative way.

In that example you said "shet" is unacceptable and "sheet" isn't. I'm sure that was accidental (because it doesn't make sense for one to be ok and one not because they both clearly mean the same thing and neither is pronounced exactly like shit) but its exactly what I mean by the slippery slope. As nvr said, we'd have to draw an arbitrary line somewhere which will just provoke the "why is shet not allowed when sheet is? OMGZ" threads. And I can't see how habbox can justify that with a straight face because it just doesn't make sense.

For the last couple of years the forum rules have remained pretty much stable and it's worked fine. I see no reason to open this can of worms when the previous formula has worked so well. Certainly in the time I was FM and indeed after that, I can't remember any threads complaining about the forum being "bland, boring and over-ruled" and if there were any they didn't gain any real momentum because those threads usually come from people who've decided they're above the rules then get pissed off when they get infracted for it, so they just get laughed at.

Exactly - instead of making pointless rules (*cough* speaking in another language *cough*), just keep to the already existing rules you've got. Using alternative words is fine, unless it breaks one of the existing rules such as bullying, rudeness and isn't a direct avoidance of any of the words in the filter. Otherwise you get more rules than required and alot of hassle on the moderators and from the members.

Depends on the context - shet is a popular word, which may of taken off thanks to that YouTube director/actor who calls people shet bags and decks. In that context it's fine, but if it breaks an already existing rule e.g. bullying and rudeness, then it is unacceptable. Why waste time and effort making yet another rule or editing a rule when the currently existing rules are all that you need? It's why I hate the "Do not post in a foreign language" rule with a passion, because speaking in another language to a huge extent is pointless (rule A11), the whole forum isn't going to understand so there is no point (thus pointless, sadly it's never sunk in with whoever wrote the rule :S)

That paragraph seems to be in agreement :S There's no point opening the can of worms when the current system is working at it's best.

I seem to remember that this was the era was of 'don't feed the trolls' and some members were called Trolls which tbh I found very rude on a personal basis and as fair as I am concerned broke its own rules i.e. Do not insult other members. There are threads in every era complaing about moderation. Too much or too little. If I remember rightly during that time lots of feedback threads were actually moved to complaints so they didn't actually develop so couldnt gather any momemtum as you put it. This doesn't happen now. I personally think the rules need a lot of work. They are ambiguous and when condensed also omitted well established rules out such as allowing swearing as long as they were links with a warning. They should be kept to the minimum possible but should be of the utmost clarity that no member can have any doubt what they mean.
