More rep bars pleeease

I was using that as an example. Basically a lot of things in life have been changed even though there was nothing wrong with the way they use to be. We'd still be living in caves throwing spears at animals if we went along saying "there's nothing wrong with the way it is". So I'll agree that there's nothing wrong with how they are at the moment but why be boring and say that when we could go and improve on them, make the forum look that bit more fresher and make an overall improvement?

Rep is rep though? The example I would use would sum this up, but it maybe unacceptable, but oh well If you removed the smell of faeces, the faeces is still faeces. Rep is just rep, colour or not colour. Transport evolved from horses to motor engines, while rep can't evolve, it can only change colour.

Me too. A lot of suggestions recently are unnecessarily getting the "don't fix what ain't broken" phrase (or something along those lines) thrown at them. [...]

It's because they themselves are unnecessary.

My opinion would be the only fix I would even consider would be a proposal to make each block worth more and thus have less people who are hitting the limit. I think with the new rep system people won't shoot up so fast, it is the remnants of the old, fairly crazy system that have all these people with full rep, so it will only take one fix and will be pretty much sorted.

However, I'm not sure whether the rep system deserves that much lip service to be given as a constant upward trend and should just instead be dismissed as ok its not that important you've hit the top now calm down.

I'd be interested on seeing what forum members thought about that.

I would only agree on that if people started to give rep again. People that haven't already reached the "legendary status" would find it extremely difficult to reach the full rep bar once you have updated it, this is because hardly anyone gives rep anymore. To be honest, the only way you can get rep from the majority of people is to rep them and get returned rep. Only a small percentage of the forum seems to +rep for good posts now.

Out of interest how do you know this :S I still give +rep for good posts but I have no idea and whether or not it is a small percentage - how could we measure that accurately?

Yeah I also give +rep. I'm not overly generous about it but I give it when necessary (until limited by "need to spread"). I rarely give -rep though. I could probably give a lot more really.
