    Open sourced != free.

    Majority of PHP (well - any web based) code is open sourced (unless obfuscated).

    I can admit that vBulletin's code isn't 100% efficient - but as this thread is about opinions then I gave my opinion.

    First question of this thread was: What do you think?

    Above is what I think.
    If it was open source then they couldn't force people to pay for it you idiot, people would just get the source code and remove all the licensing stuff :eusa_wall. Open source also means that anyone can take it and edit it and then theoretically sell it without hitting copyright laws.

    Idiots.

    Open source != free.

    Open source means just that, the source is open. As someone made the point, most PHP is open source. In regards to applications developed in other languages, where the source code can easily be hidden completely, open source generally means free though.

    Open source PHP projects is a redundant term.

    DO NOT CONFUSE OPEN SOURCE AS A LICENSE.

    Just because something is open source, does NOT place it under the GPL, MIT, BSD, or any other free license.

    Quite preposterous.

    All the main forum scripts are constantly updated, whether it be paid for or not.

    Actually you are wrong, phpBB is more up to date because it's community can submit code to be added.

    I prefer VB only because I've been using it longer but the true fact is phpBB is a lot better.

    This is a hard one to answer but ill give it ago for you

    if you want something that has a smaller file size footprint go with phpbb, mybb or imperialbb.

    If you want to have something that has a big file size and has a lot of thing that you may never use and just to show that you paid for it software use Vbulletin or ipb.

    but in the end it up to the end user what they like as no one is the same.

    If you have the money it's worth it,

    from experience MyBB seems to be the next best thing, It's the closest VBulletin-like software out there
