I think thats a load of toss.

Servers are usually stored in a server room, which has a door, which has a gap underneath, which a rat can get through. + They will check if the servers are ok by using a program, not by actual inspection. It's a big black metal box, nobody thinks of the small openings at the bottom. I personally believe the rat story.

plus the wires in servers are normally bunched together and covered in something apart from a short amount what needs to be visible
