Yes it's definately the HTC I will be going for - I breifly looked at the Vodafone 360 Sumsung H1 as they reccomended it in the vodafone shop

It was made out to be as good if not better as the HTC in the shop however after looking into it online it turns out the Vodafone 360 Samsung H1 is not that great afterall

Next step is trying to get my hands on a HTC HD2 before Christmas. Maybe I could buy it sim-free from amazon -

If I bought it from amazon (sim free) would I be able to put any sim in it? E.g. could I put my vodafone sim with my existing contract in it and would it work?

Yeah it would be unlocked (Works on any network). And you could put any sim which has a contract in it.

One word of advice though, don't buy off Amazon they're rather expensive compared to elsewhere.

Clove Technology seems cheapest at £504, my dads bought two phones from them in the past. http://www.clove.co.uk/viewProduct.a...campaign=pound

With HTC phones usually to unlock it you buy an unlock code from eBay, put the foreign SIM card in the phone, and it will ask you for the unlock code.

When you BUY the unlock code from eBay make sure the carrier is the same as the original carrier for the device. They will ask you for the phone's IMEI code, which you can find by dialing *#06#.

After that you can use your new carrier with the phone for calling and SMS. MMS and data (web browsing) wont work until you've reconfigured the APN settings on your device. You can either pay your new carrier to do this for you or you can search around for your carrier's APN settings and do it yourself. Windows Mobile most likely stores this information in an XML file or the registry (yes unfortunately you wont be rid of the Windows registry).

If you buy it unlocked (sim-free) then you won't beed an unlock code

It's an expensive way to do things though.

Yeah it is but if you look on the bright side at least your not getting tied into a long contract

I bought my HTC phone from eBay, for $250 less than it would of cost to buy directly from HTC. It was off contract, but it was locked in with a Canadian Carrier, Rogers (as I'm Canadian). All I did was pay $6 to an eBayer who gave me an unlock code within the day.
