Not really a big fan of this myself either. Not at the moment anyway.!
It seems a lot of people seem to have caught a terminal case of missed-the-point syndrome. Netbooks up until now have mainly made use of an ancient operating system designed for every computer and its dog which isn't necessarily optimised for the stuff you'd use a netbook for (surfing the net mainly, hence net-book). This OS is made solely for that purpose (you can only install it on SSDs which are mainly employed by netbooks) and has its core feature set and philosophy based around it. It isn't designed to be used on a computer that isn't connected to the internet [which computers aren't these days though?].
For those who say "omg i don't want google to avz ma dataaar omgz", like Nick said they have a great deal of stuff already and chances ae you use a lot of googles services atm anyway between gmail, android phones, google earth etc. If they wanted to they could build up a complete profile of you, hunt you down and kill you right now, but they aren't going to do that. It'll eventually go the way of internet shopping, everyone was like OMGZ DEY RNT AVIN MA CREDIT CARDZ NUMBAZ at first but now it's a lot of peoples' first choice for shopping.
Chrome OS makes perfect sense for anyone who wants a netbook and wants to make use of cloud services so their data can be accessed anywhere. If you want to do anything beyond that, go buy windows 7.
QED
Only google service i use is there search engine so.
So gl building up a profile on 2-3 searches a day.
I have windows 7 thx.
What I don't get is, most netbooks I have seen, and in fact the netbook I am using now, doesn't have an SSD? most still have normal Hard Disks? I only really see the lower Asus models using SSDs, e.g. Asus EEE 901 PC. I use the Asus EEE 1005HA netbook and other netbooks around the same price bracket as mine all have HDs and not SSDs?

Add me if you play COD Black Ops or Fifa 11.
I know that lol, but he was saying that it wouldn't be good without the internet to which I replied "Haven't seen many netbooks without mobile internet" implying that your never going to be without the internet on the devices the OS was intended for
Umm it won't be stored on another computer it will be stored on a server like say ummm everything you sign up for on the internet
Most users on the internet have credit cards, home addresses and plenty more info stored on the internet via sites like paypal, amazon and the rest, I would be suprised if that alone scared people off...
I'm sure there were scaremongers back in the day when sites first started suggesting to enter your credit card online.
EDIT: just decided to actually read all the thread and ditto to Alex and Nick

You do realise a server is a computer...
Having card information and addresses aren't that bad, but I wouldn't want more personal things, like family photos, chat logs, etc etc JUST AS AN EXAMPLE stored on another computer.
I meant personal computers, unless of course you host a server on your pc but whatever as it's very unlikely that google has 1000 pc's lined up for there servers, when talking about companys dedi servers hardly anyone refers to them as computers, and also I would rather a picture of me on holiday be leaked on the internet than my credit card info!

Aye, SSDs are just still too expensive to get in any sort of reasonable capacity and people wanted a decent amount of space to put stuff on. Asus had the right idea but they were a few years ahead of everyone else and cloud computing hadn't got nearly the momentum it has now or is likely to have in the next year. What I don't get is, most netbooks I have seen, and in fact the netbook I am using now, doesn't have an SSD? most still have normal Hard Disks?
