What real reason is there to encrypt a drive? Do you have top secret government information about the next top secret catnip or something?

Yeah. I do intent on putting it back to normal at some point as I'm getting rather board of typing a 20+ character password to access my stuff. Just need the motivation to start decrypting .

While encrypting a hard drive on a desktop is really only of purpose, typically, if you want to hide something from someone, there is actually a real purpose to encrypting hard drives in laptops. Actually, I'd strongly recommend you encrypt the hard drive in your laptop if you ever take it out of the house as you'd be surprised how much personal information could be on there. I'm sure you would not want that kind of information falling into the wrong hands if your laptop was stolen, hence why you should encrypt it.
