That's an opinion right there - i.e. my opinion of The Beatles is that they were a revolutionary band, but lyrically flat and instrumentally average.

As for Smells Like Teen Spirit's lyrics, yes, an example of not so good lyrics, but that's one song. A lot of their stuff is extremely deep and powerful, especially if you knew Cobain's psyche.

depends on what variable makes them the best. i think you could arguably say its the velvet underground thats the best, cause they've had almost just as big of an impact on modern music as the beatles but sold a tiny fraction of the amount of albums.

edit: also gotta completely disagree on the beatles being 'instrumentally average'. in certain songs you can hear how talented they are, but usually they just chose to keep it simple, because the likes of fiddly guitar playing doesn't necessarily mean a great song. also lyrically, i'll agree mccartney can be a bit weak, but lennon and harrison were spot on.
