It's ludicrous for me to expect mods to be friendly and accommodating to older members as well as newer members? That's all I meant? Perhaps you understood me?

I've said many times I see no reason for "lmfao" etc to be permitted, however it's not my decision that counts it's Sammeth's.

Sammeth doesn't think they should be permitted and that's what we have to go with.

And yes, for the first couple of times putting dots isn't punished, just PMs. But if it's still done after that then we don't really have much choice other than infracting?

Yeah, that's fine about the those words, if he doesn't want them, then that's him. If he doesn't want them then he should filter them - not just allow them to be. If shiz isn't allowed, get rid - nobody will make the error.

It's ludicrous that you think that the PMs you currently send that are scaring users away as in the case I've already given is acceptable. It doesn't take much to add a line and use common sense to close bumped threads rather than telling them off. It's different if they do it again. Even a visitor message telling them not to post in threads which are over 2 weeks without a post with a smiley face would be better.

Most mods don't post people for bumping unless they do it on multiple occasions.

I only close the thread and add an edit and I advise other mods to do the same.

Infact, in some cases we've been allowing the bumping of threads if it's reigniting discussion.

I was commenting on the examples you provided me with.

What would you like us to add to them to improve them?

I think it's only infraction/warning messages that are abrupt and short, and I agree abrupt infractions may push members away.

I've already posted twice what I think should be added onto the end of PMs sent. To newer members especially. If you want to do them to older members, that's entirely your choice.

I think in some cases it would be a better idea to highlight that the PM being sent is not a punishment, this is done occasionally, maybe not enough?

    Something like:

"This is not a punishment, just a polite PM letting you know that this is against the rules".

Yeah, that'd be an improvement. Then on the end of that, "... If you have any questions about this or anything else forum related then reply and I'll get back to you "

I'm sure that can be altered or whatever, would just be a nicer, friendlier, personal touch.

    That is a start, but why not make it more personal like;

"But don't worry! This is not a punishment, it's just a polite PM letting you know that this is against the rules to help you settle into the forum" or something.

Yeah, I agree with Blob. They won't think it's just some sorta bot - it'd be easy to make that mistake atm and think it was automated.
