    Default Filtering on the forum

    Hey,
I think there should be a feature on the forum were users can choose to have swear words filtered or unfiltered (like habbo), yes fair enough if people swear at each other that's bad, but they get warned anyway. If I said to some "**** off you stupid ****" I'd get warned wouldn't I?

Have the filter pre-set on accounts, we are not all 10 years old. Yes there's going to be arguments "why do we need this?", personally I think we need it because when silly words like (in spoiler below) are filtered it makes you feel like a child. Users should be treated like they have some maturity, but your not giving them the opportunity to be mature if your treating them like children.

    Contains a swear word

Try turn this thread into a heap of rubbish if you like, its just my opinion and feedback.

    Hope it helps!
    Richard.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but why do you need to swear on a forum?

We're not treating you like children, quite the contrary, we expect you to be mature enough to have a decent conversation not to swear all the time and not need to swear. That's partly why the rule is in place.

And to repeat a famous Jin quote; Don't fix what's not broken.

I don't mean intentionally. Some phrases need to have swearing to show your anger towards something. Mature rap artist don't swear for fun, they swear to show how angry they are and to emphasise something. Also thats like saying, why do we need to swear on habbo?

It's not a hard thing to implement I'm sure and swearing does help get a point across sometimes.

Habbo is much different to a forum. It is transient on there but on a forum
it is a permanent record and it is not appropriate in my opinion to have any hardcore swearing. It could be lightened up a bit as some words are pretty harmless but most of the words can be viewed as offensive to a lot of members notwithstanding their parents who could be looking over their shoulder. Just a personal view.

Yes, but the opinion would be there to have it filtered or not. I don't understand how habbo is different to a forum. We are a fansite we should take some of habbo's rules / features and maintain a professional atmosphere for those who would like to view swearing and those who don't. Although I understand what you mean.

If the way the swear words are used is offending then the user should get warned/infracted - simple as (such as if it's towards a user).

Also, the main point is that disabling the filter would be an action the end-user would have to make themselves. It wouldn't be the default option. Surely this makes any issue with parents a sort of moot point?

    Added more above OP ^

And Catzsy I agree, when I was younger I used to hate having to switch windows quick because someone had swore somewhere and my parents were around me.

Oh, and phrases don't need swearing at all, just as rappers don't have to.

Again, this suggestion means that you'd have to enable swearing by choice.

Which brings me to my original point, why do you need to swear on a forum, or on habbo for that matter?
