Just how they feel the need to make a point about being Scottish and not British. By all means be proud of where you come from but some nationalists would take it as an insult to call them "British". There's nothing wrong with being labelled British and at the end of the day, they are British (As well as Scottish) and should be able to handle them both. I'm also not a fan of Scottish independence as I think it would be bad for Scotland as well as the the rest of the UK, I also hate how it is currently seeing as you get your own laws, free university and better healthcare, why can't England?

Because here in England, the people who run our country are asshats and think that buying 270,000 laptops to give to people is more important than making Universities cheaper for students that might actually work (not saying the people who get free laptops won't, but you get the idea).

English but I might sometimes refer to myself as Irish just in conversation (both parents Irish). Never referred to myself as British before.

I know Scots are Brits as well, but the question is what do you consider yourself to be. Just because Scotland isn't totally governed within Scotland, it's still a country. I think Scotland should be independent from the UK, but not under the SNP and I don't know enough about this to argue really, but surely a Scot could argue that we should be able to get free laptops if England can?

Thats a damn lie by whoever is saying that (guessing the PC brigade) - out of all the nationalities and 'diversity' in this country they English are the worst treated, strange really because most of it belongs to the English people anyway last time I checked.

    Why is it?

Because the Scottish are so 'proud' of their country but don't realise that it is the English which subsidise the Scottish under the Barnett formula. What you spend up in Scotland; free uni and so forth isn't sustainable for Scotland and is only provided because the spineless MPs here (mostly Labour) make sure Scotland recieves this money because if they didn't, Labour would lose the vital support it recieves from Scotland.

Why should my mother and father pay more taxes than that of a scottish family when we recieve less and the scottish family recieves more? - they shouldn't and it really winds people up, especially when we see people like the SNP and Scottish Nationalists moaning about what England is getting (rarely anything more than Scotland gets). Scottish MPs can also vote on English issues, how on earth is that fair? - its not.

On the topic, I call myself British.
